Alex Terrible putting career and health on the line for insane fight event
Alex Terrible already has a successful music career, a worldwide tour and one of the most recognizable metal bands in the scene. None of that stopped him from stepping into bare-knuckle fighting again.
The Slaughter to Prevail frontman returns Wednesday night at Blood4Blood in Daytona Beach, Florida, where he headlines a card built around live metal performances and bare-knuckle fights. The idea came from inside his own circle. Terrible helped turn it into a real event.
He’s also paying for part of it himself.
Terrible says money was never the reason for fighting
Terrible, whose real name is Aleksandr Shikolay, admitted during an interview with MMA Fighting that he still struggles to explain why he started fighting in the first place. He had no real combat sports background before entering bare-knuckle competition.
“I really don’t know,” he said while laughing. “Maybe I need therapy.”
The 32-year-old says competition pulls him toward fighting more than money ever could. He revealed that he isn’t getting paid for his upcoming fight and instead invested his own funds into Blood4Blood to help cover fighter pay and promotion costs.
For him, the concept matters more.
Terrible wants to combine heavy music with combat sports in the same environment. Fans watching a metal show and then seeing fighters trade punches between sets feels natural to him. Chaotic maybe, but natural.
His last bare-knuckle fight left serious damage
That attitude already came with consequences.
During a 2025 bare-knuckle fight against Danil Aleev in Russia, Terrible suffered major facial injuries. His nose collapsed inward early in the bout, leaving him struggling to breathe for the rest of the fight.
He still finished it.
Post-fight photos showed heavy swelling and visible damage around his face. Looking back now, Terrible admitted he underestimated how difficult bare-knuckle fighting actually is compared to other combat sports.
“All these people watching don’t understand,” he said. “It’s a very different sport.”
This time, he says he wants to enjoy the experience more instead of walking into another ugly war.
His wife may not allow many more fights
The strangest part of Wednesday’s schedule comes after the fight ends.
Terrible still plans to perform with Slaughter to Prevail later that same night. He fully expects to fight, recover backstage and then return to the stage in front of fans attending the Welcome to Rockville week in Daytona Beach.
His confidence sounds genuine, but the people around him aren’t exactly relaxed about it.
Terrible admitted his wife has pushed back hard against his fighting career and questioned why he keeps risking his health at 32 years old. He doesn’t know if this fight will be his last, although he hinted future appearances may depend on whether the money makes sense.
For now, music remains the priority.
After Slaughter to Prevail finishes touring later this year, Terrible plans to step away for roughly a year to focus on a new album and spend more time with his family.
